Project Overview

In 2015, Global Brigades and its partner, the Ghana Water Company, installed 3 new standpipes in Akra providing clean water to 1,398 people and 233 households.

Akra, Ghana

Before the construction of water systems by Global Brigades, the people of Akra accessed water from 3 wells which were constructed over 70 years ago. Community members had to walk for about 30 minutes for one round trip to get water from these wells. As a result, some community members preferred to buy bags of water for drinking due to the salty nature of water from the wells.

Water System Solution

In 2015, Global Brigades, in partnership with the Ghana Water Company, constructed 3 community standpipes to provide safe drinking and potable water for members of the community.
